A Straw Man's Message

The children at the bottom of the sea

spoke of a safe place where there would be
acres upon acres of vibrant flowers,
and evergreen trees jutting up like towers.
One day, after father made me
I ventured down to that stormy, bottomless sea
in hopes of, one day, finding this place.
This place they call the Library.

It is now up to us, me and my tylweed family,
to plant those acres upon acres of painted plants

what rhymes with "plants"

and sow the fields of tylweed? no tylweed doesn't grow on soil
maybe grass, or something like that

what the humans eat

Forget it. I'm not very well-versed in this rhyming thing. Gotthel helped me with the other two, I guess I'm unable to write a proper poem by myself.

I don't have a name. The librarians call me "straw boy" but I don't like it. Sometimes I like calling myself "little Gotthel", though. He did everything for me. He introduced me to the library, found me my home in the Cambodian Non-fiction Aisle. He even taught me strange languages like English, Ynrrel, and the Karmenic Runes. I guess he's my second father. Maybe my big brother, or uncle. Wyldreth will always be my one true father. O' how I miss him so.

I have enjoyed my stay so far. I have no plans of leaving. However, it is awfully boring here. I suppose it is why I've taken up poetry.

I've also taken up gardening. That was what this poem was supposed to be about. To whoever is reading this; come to the Cambodian Non-fiction Aisle, just west of the Cambodian Horror Comedy Aisle. There is a place, a village, called Vigrau. You can find my garden there. None of the other toys have shown up. I fear they have succumbed to the horrors that lurk in the deepest depths of the Library. The only thing that shows up is this pesky little skunk. He keeps eating the fruits (the librarians call them "apples"). I had to poison them so it would stay out.

Hell, at least it isn't Nois Exyts.

Gotthel tells me they will come, one day. I trust him. Well, I do, but I'm not sure if he is being truthful with me. But I still have faith. I still have faith in my siblings.

Sometimes the children come to Vigrau. The librarians there are very scared of them, but I assure them that the children are safe. Just because they're big and smell like bloated pig doesn't mean they're bad, surely. But even Gotthel seems unsure about their visits.

Sometimes the children do get scared, however. They get a bit too defensive.

Gotthel won't let me forget what happened to Antiome.

But I promised it wouldn't happen again! And it hasn't. The children have not caused any more trouble. And I know Antiome will return one day. I'm sure of it. He and Gotthel were very close, so I know he can find his way back. I know it.

Anyways, please come to the garden. And if you can bring back Antiome, that would make Gotthel very happy! Please; it's for your own good. Many of Gotthel's library friends have gone missing when they stay out there too long. I don't want anyone else to be hurt.

You continue on your travels.
